Celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2024

This week is Volunteers’ Week, the annual celebration of all the amazing people who give up their time to help the many charities and organisations that benefit their local communities.

As part of it, we’ll be shining a light on the small but dedicated team volunteers who help us in a variety of different roles at the Forum!

Sue Ward Bartzsch has been a front of house volunteer for around five years, helping us out with meeting and greeting visitors, helping them find their seats and dealing with any issues they may have.

Sue, who is retired, was inspired to join the Forum by one of her friends who told her how rewarding and enjoyable it was being part of the team organising shows and events throughout the year.

“The Forum is such an important part of the town as it puts on such a wide range of great shows and attracts big stars that local people would otherwise have to travel a long way to see. There is an amazing amount of local talent in the area, which I love. Amateur musicals, dance groups, choirs etc and Forum is the ideal place for them,” said Sue.

Sue has helped out a wide variety of events ranging from rock ‘n’ roll gigs to pantomimes and she enjoys the different challenges that come with her role, however she said she always feels fully supported by the team at the venue.

Sue said: “Volunteering at the Forum has become an important and enjoyable part of my life.” I love being part of such a nice and friendly team and there is a really lovely social aspect to it, too.  I would encourage anyone who has some time to spare to give volunteering a try.  It is really rewarding helping other people, in however small a way you choose to do it.
